Distortion of Self Image

In response to Susan Bordo and "Compose Question #1": Society and all of its people are built on what the media dictates beauty or "sexyness" are. It can be seen anytime of the day and virtually anywhere depending on whether the message is verbal, written, or shown in a picture. Pictures are a major part of the beauty image becuase it's instilled in most young people at a young age or in the teen years before or right when script is set. On a typical day most people wake up and turn on the television or read a paper or magazine just to kick start their brains and start the waking up process to find the "image of society" daring them to conform to it.

Most people will see advertisements on the televison, fashion magazines, tabloids, newspapers, internet and oh so much more displaying the best products for "looking the best, smelling the greatest, and how to be popular". It's in quotes because that is what everyone else but the beholder says. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, not society. It may be society that drives some people to have problems in the frist place such as weight and social issues among peers. An image thrust upon society only upholds to those who believe they have to dress, look, and act a certain way and most people escape the grasp of the media's images by knowing they are who they are without someone telling them who to be.

McCain's Acceptance Speech

I must say one of the first things I noticed was how the Excel Energy stadium seemed like it was not even filled. This alone told the tale without listening to McCain's speech. He started his speech with commendments to President Bush and the first lady as well as his vice presidential pick. McCain didn't not speak like Obama spoke considering this is the presidency on the line. At the start of the speech a few protests actually took place on the stadium stairs whereas this never happened at any point during the Denver convention. I don't mean to bash Senator McCain but I call on certain things when I see it; such as speaking not seeming real or genuine.

McCain is without a doubt for the war in Iraq with "I would rather lose an election than see my country lose a war". A speedy cover up with "It's not who you are fighting, but what you are fighting for". With fewer attacks on Obama than I expected, McCain still spoke with great intentions as he spoke out on the energy crisis. McCain has good intentions but seems to have no real plans for the subjects and problems we currently face. I can't discredit him, I can only disagree.
