This is Our Wake Up Call!

So I have not been on here in while (like anyone really cares) but I'll only really write something when a certain issue has passed the point of relivancy to us all as a society anymore.

One thing that has absolutely sent me around the bend lately is all of the controversy and talk over Michael Jackson's death. Don't get me wrong, he was a great singer and star but once again I'm pissed at the media, not what the media is reporting on.

Nearly five days after his death and still showing up each time I get online, are notifications of Michael's death. I'm sure by now the whole world knows, so its no longer news, its overkill. Good Morning America would be off the air if they didn't run the same story two or three times. There is simply not enough stuff to call news these days so they make stuff up. Our wake up call is that nobody, but me of coarse, realizes that we are being exposed to the same batch of horse shit at least five times a day since the arise of the mainstream media getting their sticky hands on the subject of Michael Jackson.

Just an example of how quickly this can all get out of hand: On the night of Jackson's death, when all of the specials were being ran; an anchor of the show hosting the special said "we now turn to so and so outside the hospital where Michael went to give us an update." Well by this time Jackson had been confirmed dead for quite some time. So try not to think about it too long, but what in the hell did they think they could put in the "update" that would give the public anymore insight to the issue that we didn't already know considering that he is dead?

Think about all of this, but not for too long cause you may get an aneurism. Until next time, take care.

ENG 121

The pros of using a blog in English class have really helped in the sense of just writing for the hell of it. It's always good for students to be able to write about whatever they want because it allows for the mind to be fueled to come up with new ideas more easily. Practicing coming up with odd things to write about more easily allows for fresh ideas when it comes to actually writing a piece. Plus writing a blog acted as an appetizer for the brain and thought process due to them being short entries.

The only con about the blogs that comes to mind is when we would get something specific to write about. Most of the things that were a mandatory subject were actually quite interesting and fun to write about. It's those few times when the topic was a little dull and could have been written with more ease had the subject been something of our choosing. Some of the topics people in class came up with were quite on the "are you kidding me?" side. It was mainly those times that I was glad we could choose our own topic if we didn't like what our classmates came up with for a topic.

The Real Technology

Despite my previous entry about our wonderful world of technology, I'm writing another or updated perspective on the subject. Technology really is the greatest thing on Earth considering it is the very thing that has put the good ol US of A on the top of the global market. With some of the best available and up-to-date stuff on the planet, it's no wonder why our ways of living are being imposed on everyone. Technology has reshaped the face of this planet, literally. Not to mention how the very thing that's helping us reach the top is also killing us slowly with an ever growing global average temperature.

We have gone from the brick phones to the slimest looking electronic devices with the brightest screens. The most actractive pieces of technology find their way into even the poorest person's possesion simply because of our addiction to the advancement of technology. I remember when I bought my iPod. I purchased the first generation white nano with a four GB capacity. It was extremely nice and attracted me because of it's sleek design. Well, no more than one month after doing that, Apple introduced the iPod video. Slightly larger in size with a capacity of thirty GB and the price was not too much higher than what I had paid for my nano. You can imagine my frustration. Technology advances so fast these days that even a new computer is considered obsolete after one month of being out of the box. Technology has endless possibilities and the only I think about when it comes to technology is what we will produce next?

Lottery

If I were to win the lottery I don't think I would change my habits from what they are now. I think I would probably go to the same school and keep my same car and not fully own a home. I would more than likely try to invest it in something, if that's even possible anymore. Most people would blow almost all of it on stuff they really don't need.

I'm sure that a little voice would go off in your head that you were acting irresponsibly with the money when you began to blow it on pointless things. Yes, buy the things you could use, within resaon. Don't go buying a giant Cadilac Escalade just because your Chevy Surburban is "not good enough". Anyone who knew a damn about cars would know that it's all around the same quality. Point being that I myself would not change my lifestyle right away, I would save the money until I actually needed it.

Claim

If my claim about reality TV were to be conveyed as a text message it might look somehting like this: "Reality TV is probably the biggest joke in entertainment, you are really having more fun reading this text than watching one min of a reality show; if you don't believe me, try it". If my claim were to be in the form of a billboard it may look like this with a small broken television set in the lower corner of the panel: "Reality TV takes us to a new level, the level below the real society" or "Reality TV is what makes you ultimately rent a movie". If it were in a blog (this) it might be about how far reality TV stretches the limits with its no story, one winner and twenty losers, worst reason to watch TV in the first place attitude. It has an attitude because for each new show some of the show is dedicated to reviewing the previous episode and catching the viewer up on all the drama. This recap time is another reason for the airtime of the entire show, which ultimately is another reason some people don't watch the show to begin with.

In the sense of a text, the message comes across as quick and to the point with no visuals to illustrate my claim. Whereas with a billboard, the visual helps describe reality TV's precieved effect on society (as well as possibly your brain). The blog form may open doors to further decriptions simply because of the allotted legnth of a blog versus a text or billboard advertisment.

Recent Reading

I recently read an article online about what people could do to winterize their vehicles. Just suggestions about keeping up on maintainence and tire replacement. I had no idea that each car came with a predisposed schedule of when to get things done on your car. I like to take care of my car and keep it nice inside and out. The biggest fear I have when it comes to the winter season is getting in an accedent.

Driving in a car that only has two wheel drive can prove to be problematic in the snow and ice. I have had many close calls during the winter but luckily I have not yet been in an accedent. I always ask myself if this will the be the winter that I have my problems stacked on me due to an icy fender bender? I would only be ticked off cause the car would be damaged after all that I have already put into it money wise, not because I would be running late or hurt. Maybe I am nuts on that particular subject but the real problems are the authorities and the insurance companies when something small and stupid like this happens.

Argument-Reality TV

Most shows on TV are really not to bad and actually land in the "entertaining" category. Dramas and thrillers that have a set time and become a hit show that make it to a season DVD set deserve to be on the air. The shows that tick me off are the reality TV shows such as Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, America's Got Talent, Survivor, and some other dimb show was on recently that dealt with who had the best dog; give me a break.

The only real problem these shows are facing is the simlple element of the amount of boardom any person can derive from them. Each competition reality TV show is essentially the same thing only it's slightly different each episode due to someone being kicked off, the tribe speaking or the dog barking. Then a game show came on the air called "Wanna Bet?". I nearly lost my head watching one of the primere episodes. It was not even close to as much fun as any other game show was to watch and the hosts thought they were funny; I certainly was not laughing at anything they said. Point being that there are now more shows on television than anyone can handle, let alone shows with no sense of decency, excitment, or originality. The simple solution is just to turn off the tube and pop in a good movie, or better yet one of your favorite TV shows on DVD that's actually good to watch. TV is good, as long as it's not reality TV.
